The Art of Polymer Clay: Designs and Techniques for Creating Jewelry, Pottery, and Decorative Artwork
By Donna Kato
1997
ISBN: 0-8230-0278-0
144 pages
This is one of the classic polymer clay techniques books, written by one of the best-known polymer clay artists, Donna Kato. Unlike many crafts books, this one does not follow the typical “project” outline. You’ll learn a variety of techniques, but the book doesn’t take you step-by-step through the creation of a specific object. For instance, you’ll learn how to make a bull’s-eye cane, but it’s up to you to figure out what to do with it. If you’re beyond the “guide me moment by moment from unopened package of clay to finished item” stage, but still looking to learn classic polymer clay techniques, you’ll enjoy this book. There’s a little bit of everything, from basic canes and faux effects to vessel and sculpture fundamentals. Throughout the book, attractive photos of the author’s artwork provide examples of what is possible with practice and attention to detail, and selected techniques are illustrated with step-by-step photos.
